Spyderco Tasman Salt Diving or Seaman Knife The Tasman Salt folder features a Hawkbill blade. This distinctive curved cutting tool has a claw-like tip that originated in the marine/commercial fishing industry. Cutting in and around water involves cutting line, netting and rope and it-s done quickly, often at arm-s length while pulling downward or toward you. The blade-s arcing tip holds what you-re cutting against the sharpened edge keeping it from slipping off the tip. Spyderco-s new rustproof Hawkbill blade is made with state of the art non-rusting H-1 steel. H-1 is a precipitation-hardened steel containing nitrogen instead of carbon, which cannot rust. The hollow-ground blade offers remarkable cutting performance in and around fresh and saltwater. The handle is textured with a Volcano Grip- pattern and molded with fiberglass reinforced nylon (FRN). It-s equipped with a reversible left/right hand titanium pocket clip (also non-rusting) that positions the folder tip-up in the pocket. We recommend threading a thong or cord through the lanyard hole for back-up retention around water, where once dropped, a knife is often lost or irretrievable. 4 in. closed, 6 13/16 in. overall, 2 15/16 in. blade.

Like the claw of the Harpy eagle the C08 is shaped for controlled pulling cuts. The hawkbill-shaped blade originated in the marine/fishing industry where severing rope, line, webbing and netting is done at arm's length, quickly and efficiently. The curving arc holds what you're cutting against the sharpened edge keeping it from slipping off the tip. Custom knifemaker David Boye developed the dent in the locking lever, which insures the blade remains securely locked open when gripping the handle with force. Cut out of the handle is a shackle key/drying vent allowing air to circulate around the blade when closed wet. Metal clip is positioned for tip down carry.

H1 is an extraordinary Japanese steel that uses nitrogen instead of carbon to create its steel matrix. The result is an austenitic steel that does not require heat treatment, gets harder and tougher with use and is completely impervious to rust! The distinctive curved shape of a hawkbill blade gathers and holds the material being cut, making it perfect for cutting materials like rope, line and netting. cutting against the sharpened edge keeping it from slipping off the tip. The hollow-ground H-1 blade of the Tasman is mated to a black molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle with a Volcano Grip texture pattern for a positive grip in all conditions. A titanium pocket clip positions the folder tip-up in the pocket and is reversible for left or right-side carry. The clip attachment screw is also hollow, providing a handy lanyard hole for attachment of a thong or cord when using the knife around water.
